Feeding Our Soul

Have you ever felt like you could do so much more with your life? I think many of us have. I have heard that feeling referred to as divine discontent. It is Spirit urging us to live from our inner strength, to follow our hearts. So often we fail to do this because we judge ourselves so harshly. We say things like, “Who are you to do this?” “You’re not so special.” “Who do you think you are?” We discourage ourselves from living the life we are seeking.

There is another way. We can release these limiting beliefs and give ourselves positive messages. We can recognize our own spiritual strength and move through our own judgments to higher ground. One question I learned long ago that helps me out is, “Suppose my dream isn’t impossible, what is the first thing I would do?” Then go and do it. Even if it is a small step, each succeeding success will build your confidence and lead you in the direction of manifesting you dreams.

Father John O’Donohue wrote, “Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent.” When we experience our own resilience, and the ability we have to create the life we so desire we never want to go back to living small. I love the phrases the father uses when he writes about, “The lowland of complacency and partial fulfillment.” Once we break free there is no going back, there is only freedom to be what we came here to be. We go from the ordinary to the extraordinary, and it’s so comforting to know we don’t have to do this alone, standing with us always is the Power and Presence that created all that is. I think that’s a pretty good deal.
