Claiming Your Power

Paul Williams wrote, “You have a power that has nothing to do with what you do, or what you say, or who you know, or what you know, or who you are, or what you look like, or your skills, or your talents, or what you have. It is your presence.” You and I are God expressing and that is where our power emanates from. We have the ability to work with the greatest power that will ever be, to manifest the lives we desire.

For so long many of us have been told what we can’t do. We constantly hear that we are limited. So we learn to believe that we don’t have much power. What if these lessons are wrong? What if we are powerful beyond belief? Imagine if we lived our lives believing the only limits are the ones we place on ourselves.
There is a story in the Bible about a man who comes to a pool for thirty-eight years in hopes of being cured. One day Jesus happens by and asks him, “Do you wish to be healed?” The man says, “Yes”. Jesus then tells him to pick up his mat and walk, which he does. This is a story about faith and a belief that in Spirit anything is possible. It is a wonderful reminder that life isn’t happening to us it’s happening through us.

I read once that Jesus never referred to his healings as miracles. He called them his work. I like that because I can relate to it. My work-our work is to develop a spiritual practice that assists us in deepening our faith so that we feel centered in God at all times. When we do we realize who our true self is, the one that is in the world but not of it.

Richard Bach wrote, “Every person, all the events of your life are there because you have drawn them there. What you choose to do with them is up to you.” I love that quote because it speaks to our strength. When we look at our life we can see that all the events we experience are there because we put them there. That takes power. If we don’t like what we are seeing we can change it. That to takes power. It also takes determination. So, from a spiritual point of view the question isn’t, “Why me?” but rather, “What now?”

The world needs you and me to be willing to be our authentic self. We need to bloom where we are planted. We blossom when we step into our power, because then we become the person we were meant to be. In that moment we not only transform our own life, but we take the first step to changing our world.
